On the afternoon of November 23rd, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics' held the the 5th International Cultural Festival at Jueqi Square on the Jiaoqiao Campus. The opening ceremony was attended by vice president Wang Xiaoping and Ouyang Kang as well as leaders from the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, Civilization Construction Office, Graduate School, Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Overseas Education School, Academic Affairs Office, School of Accounting, School of Economics, School of Humanities and other departments.
A crowd of over 1,000 people attended, including members of the Photography Association, as well as foreign teachers and international students from more than 20 countries. Making his opening speech in both Chinese and English, vice president Wang Xiaoping expressed his gratitude to all those in attendance. The vice president emphasized the beautiful, the wonderful, the colorful, the fruitful and the meaningful aspects of the festival, and then went on to express his hope that all the teachers and students in attendance might achieve all five of these “fuls” in their studies and lives.
After the opening ceremony was complete the festival began in earnest with students from all over the world ascending the stage. Glad in their national dress, the performers were soon wowing the crowd with lively song and dance. On the ground many teachers and students stopped to join in the activities and take photos of the exhibition areas set up on both sides of the square. Here international students resplendent in their national dress demonstrated the customs, handicrafts, games and local delicacies of their homeland. A traditional Chinese exhibition area was also available to allow the foreign students to enjoy the rich traditional Chinese heritage. The sheer number and variety of activities was quite overwhelming and all attendees thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
We would like to thank Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics for hosting this event, as well as co-sponsors: the Overseas Education School, the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee, the Student Affairs Department, the Youth League Committee and the International College. We also extend our thanks to the JUFE Photography Association, the International Student Volunteers Association and the Chinese Traditional Culture Research Association. Since 2015, JUFE has successfully held five International Cultural Festivals with each one attracting more and more attendees. The festival has become a hallmark event on the JUFE calendar as well as an important platform for multicultural exchanges between Chinese and foreign students.
