On the morning of September 29, the 2024 International Students' Opening Ceremony and Orientation Meeting was held in the Graduate School Lecture Hall. Vice President Fang Yuming attended the event, along with Wan Jianxiang, Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Luo Shihua, Dean of the Graduate School, Gong Meijun, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, and Huang Xianming, Dean of the Overseas Education School. Other attendees included relevant heads of teaching departments, representative faculty members, senior international students, and 196 new students from 39 countries, including Morocco, France, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, Ethiopia, and Pakistan. The ceremony was hosted by Wan Yina, Deputy Dean of the Overseas Education School.

The ceremony began with the stirring and solemn sound of the national anthem of the People's Republic of China. Fang Yuming, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome to each new student who had crossed oceans to pursue their dreams. He introduced the university’s history and the development of international education at the school, and explained the profound meaning of the school’s motto: Faith, Diligence, Integrity, and Perseverance. Fang expressed his hope that as new members of the Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE), the 2024 international students would carry forward the spirit of JUFE. He also shared three key expectations for them:

Adapt to your new environment, deeply engage with Chinese culture, and lay a solid foundation for cross-cultural communication.

Plan your time wisely, strive for academic excellence, and aim to become leaders in your respective fields as soon as possible.

Keep a global perspective, promote diverse cultures, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Finally, Fang Yuming wished the new students a fruitful experience at the university, where they would gain knowledge, friendships, and personal growth, making their study abroad experience one of the most valuable chapters in their lives.

Chen Haiyan, a new student from Vietnam and a 2024 master’s candidate in International Business, spoke on behalf of the new students. She said, “Life is like a book, and the most exciting chapters are written by ourselves.” She encouraged her peers to cherish their time in the classroom, to hone their comprehensive skills, and to cultivate a spirit of teamwork. Mark, a senior student from Uganda pursuing a master’s degree in Finance (2023 cohort), shared his experiences at JUFE. He encouraged the new students to step out of their comfort zones, work hard in their studies, and explore new experiences by actively participating in various cross-cultural activities both on and off-campus.

Zhou Guzhen, a professor from the School of Economics, spoke as the faculty representative. Having studied abroad herself, she expressed understanding of the mix of excitement and uncertainty the new students might be feeling. She emphasized that JUFE is committed to fostering an open and inclusive educational environment that respects and values individual differences. Zhou encouraged students to communicate regularly with their professors to deepen their understanding of academic subjects and to seek valuable academic guidance and personal development advice.

At the ceremony, the attending guests presented school badges to the representatives of the new students. Following the ceremony, staff from the Overseas Education School conducted an orientation session for the new students. They emphasized important university regulations and policies, covering topics such as daily management, dormitory rules, religious laws and regulations, residence permit applications, drug prohibition, and telecom fraud prevention.

The Overseas Education School continues to strengthen the Study at JUFE brand, aiming to enhance the scale, scope, level, and quality of international student education. The college is committed to improving the quality of education and management, making new contributions to the university's internationalization efforts and high-quality development.
