On October 16, 2024, the opening ceremony and orientation meeting for the 2024 cohort of international students in the Chinese language training program took place at the International Exchange Center. The event was attended by Huang Xianming, Dean of the Overseas Education School, representatives of Chinese language teachers, class advisors for the 2024 cohort, and 157 new students from 23 countries. The ceremony was hosted by Wan Yina, Vice Dean of the Overseas Education School.
Huang Xianming extended a warm welcome to the new students who had traveled from afar and introduced the history and motto of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE). He expressed three hopes for the new students: first, to work hard in learning Chinese and improve their language skills; second, to integrate into the community and make more friends; and third, to actively participate in various activities that help them learn about China, aiming to become a bridge between Chinese culture and world civilizations.
Wang Furong, a teacher from the School of Foreign Languages, spoke as a representative of the faculty. She emphasized that learning Chinese not only requires mastering grammar and vocabulary but also understanding Chinese culture, social norms, and traditional customs. She encouraged the students to immerse themselves in the local culture, explore cultural sites, and make local friends, all while embracing future challenges with an open mind.
MULENZA INEVA from Mozambique, who goes by the Chinese name Song Yiren, delivered a speech as a representative of the new students. She expressed her gratitude to JUFE for the opportunity to study, highlighting the significance of China's remarkable economic development. She noted that mastering Chinese is crucial for both personal development and the advancement of her home country. She encouraged her fellow international students to study hard, promote cooperation between China and their home countries, and also learn from one another to move forward together.
Student management officers from the Overseas Education School provided a detailed orientation for the new students, covering topics such as visa and insurance procedures, academic management, teaching regulations, dormitory management, religious policies, and campus safety. The international students actively interacted with the teachers, asking questions on issues they were interested in.
The Chinese Language International Promotion Program, as a key platform for fostering mutual understanding and promoting cultural exchange between China and the world, continues to attract more international students. This program aims to help students master Chinese language skills through systematic teaching and rich cultural experiences, understand China's national conditions, enhance China's cultural soft power, and strengthen the country's international competitiveness and discourse power.
