As the year 2025 approaches, and in an effort to promote the spirit of learning from Lei Feng and selfless dedication, 14 members of our university’s Lei Feng International Volunteer Association were invited to Lotus Book House in Nanchang County on the afternoon of January 23 to participate in a unique Spring Festival public service event. Jointly organized by the Jiangxi Communist Youth League Committee, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics Lei Feng International Volunteer Association, and Lotus Book House, this event marked the second visit of our international volunteers to this remarkable public library.

Lotus Book House is one of the province’s leading eco-cultural and technological interactive public libraries, renowned for its unique lotus-shaped design and 3D-printed petal archways. Here, public service knows no borders. International student volunteers worked alongside staff members, carefully organizing books, tending to plants, and decorating the book house with festive New Year lanterns. They also engaged with visiting readers in public welfare activities, embodying the profound essence of the Lei Feng spirit through their actions.

Beyond their volunteer efforts, the book house thoughtfully prepared a series of traditional Chinese New Year cultural experiences for the volunteers. From calligraphy writing, paper-cutting for window decorations, and gold-foil painting on fans to making dumplings by preparing the filling and rolling the wrappers, each activity immersed them in the rich traditions of Chinese culture, bringing them joy and a sense of belonging.

Mary Yarrow Anaam-Pok, a master’s student from Ghana, expressed her amazement during the paper-cutting activity:
Paper-cutting is truly magical! A simple piece of paper can be transformed into so many intricate shapes, filled with the spirit of the New Year.

Meanwhile, PhD student Korsorku Patience Akosua Dzigbordi shared her heartfelt message during the calligraphy session:
I chose to write this phrase because I believe that we are all already very blessed. In the new year, I sincerely wish for everyone’s lives to be even happier and more fulfilling.

The fragrance of books fills the air, and the spirit of Lei Feng guides the way. This event not only deepened the volunteers’ appreciation of Chinese traditional culture but also allowed them to spend an extraordinary Spring Festival together in a foreign land. While learning about local customs, they also felt the warmth and care extended to them far from home.

This was more than just a public service activity—it was a spiritual journey and a cultural exchange. Looking ahead to the new year, the Lei Feng International Volunteer Team aims to further spread the Lei Feng spirit worldwide, delivering even higher-quality volunteer services in the spirit of dedication, mutual assistance, friendship, and progress.
