On May 30, 2025,Overseas Education Schol hosted the themed event Dragon Boat Festival Sentiments, Cultural Harmony. Through an immersive cultural experience,OES presented international students with a vivid lesson on traditional Chinese culture.

That evening, the aroma of mugwort filled the international students' activity room. The bilingual event featured Chinese student volunteers who introduced the origins and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival in detail—from the legend of Qu Yuan’s sacrifice to traditions like hanging mugwort, wearing sachets, eating zongzi, and dragon boat racing—providing an accessible yet profound explanation of the festival’s historical and cultural significance.

During the Sachet-Making Workshop, volunteers demonstrated the steps to craft herbal sachets and explained the health benefits of ingredients like patchouli and mugwort. The international students eagerly threaded needles, sewing delicate sachets from silk fabric and filling them with blended herbs. They excitedly showcased their creations, sharing and taking photos together. Indonesian student Zheng Feili remarked, I’ll send this handmade Dragon Boat Festival sachet to my family back in Indonesia so they can also appreciate the wisdom of Chinese culture.

Prior to the event, the International Student Office distributed customized meal vouchers—exclusive Dragon Boat Festival gifts—to all enrolled international students. While distributing the vouchers, staff explained the festival-inspired designs featuring dragon boats and zongzi. Moroccan student Amina shared, This gift is incredibly heartwarming. It makes us feel the university’s care for every student during this special festival and deepens my anticipation for traditional Chinese holidays.

The event not only enhanced international students' understanding of the Dragon Boat Festival but also allowed them to experience joy through collaboration and sharing, strengthening exchanges between Chinese and foreign students. Through hands-on participation, they gained deeper insight into the Eastern philosophies of harmony in diversity and shared beauty. Moving forward, the College of Overseas Education will continue innovating in cultural dissemination, building richer platforms for Sino-foreign youth exchanges, and fostering deeper mutual appreciation among civilizations.
