In the afternoon of September 24, the opening ceremony and orientation for the 2025 cohort of international students at our university were held. Vice President Yuan Honglin attended the event. Also present were heads of the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, Security Department, Overseas Education School, and other units, along with directors of teaching schools, faculty representatives, all staff of the Overseas Education School, and 195 new students from the class of 2025 representing 35 countries including Morocco, France, Russia, Vietnam, and Pakistan. The ceremony was presided over by Li Qing, Vice Dean of the Overseas Education School.
Yuan Honglin noted that since enrolling its first batch of international students in 1997, the university has cultivated 3,236 students from 174 countries, forming an international student education system characterized by degree-focused education and English-taught programs. He explained the meaning of the university motto Faith, Agility, Integrity, and Perseverance, emphasizing the JUFE spirit of Dedication, Collegiality, and Pursuit of Excellence. He also raised three expectations for the new students: firstly, to use Chinese as a bridge to actively build connections for cultural exchange and mutual learning; secondly, to explore academic frontiers with boundary-breaking thinking, break disciplinary barriers and cognitive limitations, and delve deeply into their specialized fields; thirdly, to shoulder responsibilities with a global mindset and become practitioners who promote global development and contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
New student representative KEHIHEL OMAR from Morocco expressed his anticipation for the upcoming academic journey at JUFE and pledged on behalf of all newcomers to engage in their studies and life with a proactive and enterprising attitude. Ph.D. student CHIBOIWA NICOLE RUTENDO from Zimbabwe shared practical experiences regarding course learning, campus life, and cross-cultural adaptation based on her own academic journey. Faculty representative Dr. Lai Shaojie from the School of Finance encouraged the international students to dare to break through and challenge themselves, actively integrate into the JUFE family, and grow through multicultural interactions.
The second part of the opening ceremony consisted of the orientation session. Officers Lou Jie and Yin Huizhen from the Exit-Entry Administration Division of the Nanchang Municipal Public Security Bureau were invited to deliver special lectures. They provided detailed explanations on key issues such as Chinese exit-entry administration regulations, visa application procedures, and the conditions and document requirements for residence permit applications, helping the international students understand their legal responsibilities and important considerations while staying in China. Subsequently, staff from the International Student Affairs Office of the Overseas Education School conducted systematic training on key aspects of campus management: regarding visa management, they emphasized the procedures and document requirements for visa extensions and changes, highlighting the importance of compliant stays for the students' academic pursuits; in terms of academic and safety management, they provided a comprehensive introduction to course requirements, attendance policies, and laboratory safety operation protocols, guiding the new students to establish a rigorous academic attitude and awareness of safety rules; concerning dormitory management and university discipline education, they detailed dormitory safety guidelines, public order requirements, and campus conduct codes to help the new students develop good living habits and quickly integrate into campus life.
As the designated administrative department for international students at our university, the Overseas Education School will continue to deepen the brand building of Study at JUFE, closely aligning with the goal of broader scope, wider fields, higher levels, and superior quality in international student education. It will continuously expand the pool of high-quality students, optimize training programs, and enhance management and service quality, making new contributions to the high-quality development of the university's internationalization endeavors.
